Biodiesel Plant Already in Demand
AUSTRALIA - Tasmania's first biodiesel plant at Cressy is expected to start production by August. The biodiesel plant, which turns poppy seed waste into fuel, will produce 12,000 litres of poppy seed oil a day.
The facility at Cressy, in the state's northern midlands, is run by Macquarie Oil, who have purchased equipment to turn the oil into diesel and its expected to arrive in eight weeks according to ABC News.
ABC reports that the company's director Rob Henry has said there is already been strong interest in biodiesel within the state.
"Metro are very very keen to use it, we've had talks with Hydro Tasmania as well in regard to power generation on Flinders Island," Mr Henry told ABC.
"We've been approached by a couple of large trucking companies who are very keen to use it so I don't think we'll have any trouble and I'm sure there'll be a lot of farmers who'd be very interested in it as well," he said.
