US - Champaign County in Ohio could soon become the states wind capital as plans are going forward for new wind turbines to be build to harness wind energy.EverPower Renewables has negotiated leases with at least 100 property owners, mostly in eastern Champaign County, for land for the turbines according to reports in the Columbus Dispatch.
The New York-based wind-energy developer plans to file two applications with the Ohio Power Siting Board for a wind farm that is expected to dwarf Ohio's only other wind farm, a four-turbine project in Bowling Green.
Michael Speerschneider, EverPower's Ohio project manager told the Dispatch that the plans are to have as many as 130 turbines in Champaign Country.
The project is expected to cost around $500 million and each property owner who allows a turbine on his land could earn 15,000 a year according to the report.
