Motorists Switch to Ethanol Blends
AUSTRALIA - Cheaper and environmentally friendly ethanol-blended fuel growing is becoming more and more popular among motorists in Australia.According to The Canberra Times, a report from APAC Biofuel Consultants shows that the biofuel sector is contributing about 3000 barrels a day to the Australian transport fuel supply.
This is just over 50 per cent of the way to meeting the 350 million litres a year target by 2010, set by the previous federal government.
APAC Consultants joint chief executive officer Mike Cochran told The Canberra Times: "The number of retail outlets selling ethanol blend has increased threefold over the past two years, concentrating in Queensland and NSW and to a lesser extent in South Australia and Victoria."
Ethanol-blended petrol - 10 per cent ethanol and 90 per cent petrol - sells for about 2c a litre less than standard petrol.
