Grain Marketing Workshops Back by Popular Demand

AUSTRALIA - The popular Understanding Grain Markets workshops initiated in 2007 are being offered again this year to ensure growers are aware of changes to grain marketing systems.

The popular Understanding Grain Markets workshops initiated in 2007 are being offered again this year to ensure growers are aware of changes to grain marketing systems.

The workshops have been organised by the Training and Education Working Group comprising the National Association of Commodity Marketers of Australia, Western Australia (NACMAWA), Curtin University and the Department of Agriculture and Food.

The one day courses will be offered in19 regional wheatbelt locations including Darkan on 19 August, Wickepin on 21 and 22 August, Kondinin on 13 August and Quairading on 8 and 9 September.

The Working Group has designed the new courses based on feedback from growers and the experiences of professionals from the fields of education, agribusiness, and marketing.

Working Group Chair Anthony Fitzgerald said WA growers had continually adapted to new challenges and the UGM program was initiated to help them adjust to changes to grain marketing systems.

“Changing regulations in barley, canola and wheat markets have presented new value opportunities and we want to give growers the keys to unlocking them,” he said.

Each workshop will be presented by professionals engaged in trading or marketing management at a senior level.

Last year workshops were attended by 420 growers across 19 regional locations. Of those attending, 98 per cent said they would recommend it to a neighbour, and 80 per cent said they wanted to attend a follow up workshop.

Mr Fitzgerald said growers who attended the program last year developed skills that would benefit their businesses.

“Based on grower feedback, the original UGM-I workshop has been upgraded and a more advanced UGM-II workshop is now also available,” he said.

With the Farmbis rebate, the cost is $220 including GST.

Bookings are now being taken (see proposed workshop dates and locations in the table below).
