Print This Page Fields of Gold: Sarawak Eyes Jatropha
MALAYSIA - An alternative source of energy from jatropha curcas appears to hold great promise for bio-diesel, according to Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. He believed that large tracts of ideal land in the rural areas in the state were suitable for large-scale plantation of jatropha, which is a possible feedstock for biodiesel, and its success would transform the rural economy, reports the Borneo Bulletin.
Taib was officiating at a seminar on "Renewable Energy From Jatropha Curcas - The Way Forward" here. He foresaw the commercial cultivation of jatropha to be accompanied by establishment of refineries for bio-diesel production, which in turn would create employment opportunities for the local people.
