Print This Page Call to Accelerate Sale of Higher CME Biodiesel Blend
PHILIPPINES - The Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) has formally backed the Department of Energy's (DoE) accelerated implementation of higher coco methyl ester (CME) blend to diesel products sold at the pumps.According to the Manila Bulletin, several groups have been pushing for an earlier start of the two per cent biodiesel blend.
Under the Biofuels Law, this level of biodiesel blend is expected to be introduced by February 2009.
The Manila Bulletin said the FPI president Jesus Arranza the drop in coconut prices can lead to the early start of the B2 blend.
"The price of coconut is low. This may help in reducing the price of diesel if we will accelerate the biodiesel mix," he told the Bulletin.
The government has been pushing the propagation of jatropha as feedstock for biodiesel, but its quality, according to oil companies, has yet to pass Philippine National Standards.
