Print This Page DA Pushes Sorghum For Ethanol
PHILIPPINES - Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat has urged the production of sweet sorghum, a high yielding bioethanol feedstock in Negros Occidental.Undersecretary Puyat was speaking at the 1st Sweet Sorghum Techno-Investment Forum conducted by the Philippine Agricultural Development and Commercial Corp and the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City, according to reports in the Visayan Daily Star.
The agriculture junior minister told the conference that bioenergy technologies form an important part of the country’s re-energised bid to become less dependent on imported oil.
She said it would also to bring productivity to idle lands.
The objective is to spare the country some P35 billion in oil importation annually, she also said.
