Six Solar Power Projects for Haryana
INDIA - Six projects with a total capacity of 12 megawatts (MW) have been allocated to private developers to generate power from solar energy by the Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA).Two of the projects with a capacity of 1 MW each will not require any land as these will be installed on rooftops of existing industries.
The Economic Times said that the other projects are also being executed by private industries. The projects would be set up by these industries before December 2009, with a total investment of nearly Rs.2.4 bn.
The power produced from the projects will be fed into the state grid for which the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The ministry of new and renewable energy will subsidise Rs.12 per unit in the Rs.15.96 per unit cost of power generated from these projects.
Meanwhile, the Indian overnment is prepapring to get the country's 'national solar mission' underway with steps to set up research-industry partnerships, tariff structures and tax breaks to citizens aimed at promoting competitiveness and even seed 'solar valleys' for largescale energy generation.
As part of the plant the government is reported to be seeking 10,000MW installed capacity by 2020 as part of the national climate change policy.
