AUSTRALIA - ABC News reports that the final touches are being added to a solar farm in western Queensland which could revolutionise the way electricity is delivered to small, remote towns. The Minister for Mines and Energy, Geoff Wilson, told Parliament the town of Windorah, in the state's central west, will produce solar energy within months.
He says the technology could be used in other towns not yet connected to the electricity grid.
"Windorah will soon be the first town in Queensland to use use solar power for all of its daytime electricity needs," he said.
"Five giant solar dishes are now in place. They look spectacular against the backdrop of the Simpson Desert.
"Our solar farm could revolutionise the way power is produced for remote communities that aren't on the national electricity grid."
