NCGA President Touts Corn’s Energy Potential
US - National Corn Growers Association President Ron Litterer joined a panel of energy experts Wednesday in Louisville, Ky., discussing the importance of corn ethanol for energy independence and security, as well as economic growth.
“Our U.S. energy solution should be as well-rounded and diverse as our energy needs and resources themselves are,” Litterer said. “As a result, we should think of an energy solution in terms of a collection of fields where we can all excel by sharing resources and working together.”
Litterer’s presentation was part of a panel at The Louisville Forum, an independent non-profit discussion group that hosts debates and presentations on key issues of interest to the local community. The topic of the panel was “Energy: We Know The Problems, What Are The Solutions?” and other panelists focused on energy efficiency, solar power and the importance of coal.
In his remarks, Litterer focused on three benefits of corn ethanol: supporting the rural economy, increasing energy independence and helping protect the environment. In a question period afterward, he discussed how ethanol is energy positive – providing more energy than the production of it uses, and how subsidies are used widely throughout the energy sector.
