FG Urged to Go for Solar Energy
NIGERIA - AllAfrica reports that a Nigerian engineering company, Solar Centre Baden Limited, has stressed the need for Nigeria to opt for solar energy in its quest to solve the nation's power problem. The company's Chief Executive Officer, Nwadiora Nwosu made the call while demonstrating his firm's newly discovered solar technology that "converts multiple solar thermostat panels to single units converting it to solar energy for power generation" before the senior management staff of the State House, Abuja.
Nwosu said solar energy is the power solution now being pursued by many countries of the world. According to him, "in advanced countries, nobody talks about Hydro Power generation as Solar energy generation is now the in-thing all over the world."
The technical director of the company, Paulson Chino explained that "with the latest thermoprotocell technology designed and manufactured in Nigeria by Nigerians, the Single Solar panel units draws energy from the sunlight during the day, supplies it to the protocells system and transfers it again to the inverter which converts the currents to A/C and supplies to all the electrical appliances in your homes, offices, industries, estates or communities.
According to Mr. Chino, "even when it rains for days and there is no sunlight, jthe solar panels magnets and stores sunrays for the rainy days. He added that the solar power generation can also be used as a back-up to NEPA and is comparatively cheaper than the cost and maintenance of a Generator set. Explaining further, he said that solar energy neither fluctuates nor requires fuelling and has maintenance free life spam of not less 10 years."
The CEO of Solar Centre Baden Limited, Chief Nwosu added that the plans are on the pipeline with some federal government agencies to train some Nigerians on the installation and comparative advantages of solar power generation as a means of creating employment, insisting that the major raw material component of the solar panel is silicon and that the silicon found in Nigeria is better and cheaper than silicon in other parts of the world.
Responding to the demonstration, the Deputy Director Maintenance of the Pesiden-tial Villa State House Abuja, Engr. Badamosi who represented the Permanent Secretary of the State House, commended the staff and management team of Solar Centre Baden Limited for their inno-vativeness and the competence displayed in their discovery and explanation of the workings of this thermopro-tocells system, and expressed hope that it could be locally mass produced so that the ordinary man on the street can afford it.
