CHINA - An experimental solar energy power plant in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was linked to the electricity grid recently, and is the largest solar photovoltaic high-tension power plant to be hooked up to the grid. The power plant involved 22.39 million yuan (US$3.3 million) investment and is able to generate 680,000 kWh electricity a year. It can save 305 tons of standard coal and reduce the emission of 4.27 tons of sulfur dioxide and 1.09 tons of nitride.
According to plan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region will build a 330-kw solar energy photovoltaic power plant and a 10-megawatt photovoltaic power plant and linked them with the grid by the end of 2010.
