npower Wind Farm Plans

UK - Plans for a wind farm in South Yorkshire could provide enough power for over 7,000 homes.

Energy company npower has put forward plans for the farm to be built to the west of the A1 near the village of Hampole and it is intended as a contribution towards the firm's renewable energy generation.

The site has already been assessed for its suitability to take a wind farm and consultation has already taken place with those living in the area, according to a report in the Yorkshire Post.

The proposals involve five turbines, which would reach around 400ft high.

The company says that environmental studies on a wide range of topics from the effects of the wind farm on wildlife to noise levels have produced findings, which support the application.

Joanna Thompson, npower renewables spokeswoman, told the Yorkshire Post: "Meeting UK targets for renewable energy is a huge challenge and onshore wind farms, such as the one proposed at Hampole, are a vital part of the ongoing effort to tackle climate change."
