US - Researchers at Washington State University are using human waste to help fertilise switch grass and corn crops used for biofuels. In July, Waste Management in Richland gave three truckloads of wastewater to researchers at WSU Prosser according to reports on KNDO KNDU Right Now.
The treated waste with pathogens reduced and toxins removed was spread on switchgrass in Paterson.
Researchers in Prosser are testing 12 different kinds of switchgrass and corn, to see which crop could produce more fuel. The researchers say that the switchgrass crops in Prosser are of very high quality, and now they need bio refineries to be able to market the product.
