$76,000 Grant for Biodiesel Plant

US - A farmers market established in the old power plant in Andalusia Alabama could soon be the base of a biodiesel plant.

The power plant could start up again to convert used cooking oil to biodiesel for use in the city's vehicles.

The city council has received a grant of $76,000 from the USDA's Rural Business Enterprise to convert the plant.

The scheme will convert used domestic and restaurant cooking oil to biodiesel.

The city bauthorities said that the decision to place the processor at the Farmer’s Market was made so that school groups and others interested in the process would have easy access for viewing it, according to the Andalusia Star News.

The processor is expected to produce 200 gallons of biodiesel a day.
