AUSTRALIA - Negotiations are taking place to build biofuel plants in wester New South Wales. The Orana Regional Development Board, Gowest, is negotiating with international businesses to establish carbon trading in the region, according to an ABC report.
Gowest plans to host a forum in Dubbo to promote the business and investment opportunities that future carbon trading and biofuel production present.
The chairman of Gowest, John Walkom, says the region needs to be ready to ensure it can house biofuel production, ABC reports.
"We've got a lot of the infrastructure in place, we've got natural gas, we've got a great road system that links us north, west, south and east," he said.
"Any biofuels can't be manufactured in metropolitan areas because they are too dense, you come out here to regional NSW and it's certainly an opportunity for us out here in our region."
He says it is vital the region prepares for the growing industry.
It is hoped that the new Climate Change Minister, Carmel Tebbutt, will address the forum.
