Energia Brings New Wind Power to Irish Market

IRELAND - The leading competitive energy provider, Energia has taken delivery of 61 megawatts of wind power from new turbine facilities in counties Cork and Kerry for onward supply to its renewable energy customers throughout.

This new development by Energia will remove over 90,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere and it provides the equivalent power for 36,000 homes. Energia is a leading all-island player in the provision of renewable power. The company also supplies conventionally generated electricity from two major gas fired generating stations in Dublin.

Energia's wind farm offtake contracts and asset development pipeline on the Island of Ireland comprises over 550MW of electricity, making a major contribution to its sustainable energy agenda. Energia is a low carbon intensity energy supplier. It also supplies a large portion of all gas consumed in by large industrial and commercial customers.

The company is investing over €550 million in wind farm offtake contracts in fifteen locations across which will all be completed next year. Last July, it also took delivery of 30 megawatts of new wind power from Donegal, Sligo and Tipperary.

The company’s renewable portfolio currently eliminates over 250,000 tonnes of C02 per annum from the Irish atmosphere, making a significant contribution to carbon reduction by its customers. These figures will increase significantly in the years ahead as further green projects come on stream.

Energia’s parent firm, Viridian Power & Energy (VP&E) are the main sponsor of the first ever IWEA (Irish Wind Energy Association) all- island conference to be held in Northern Ireland. VP&E is a top five wind farm developer and the leading provider of power off take agreements for independent wind farm developers. VP&E is firmly committed to developing the renewable energy sector to achieve challenging Government targets.

Energia supplies 25 per cent of the business electricity market on an all-island basis with over 40,000 customers.
