Australia Could Export Biofuel
AUSTRALIA - Research by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) could see biodiesel from waste becoming an export product for Australia.Research scientist Warwick Raverty said CSIRO is investigating methods of turning agricultural waste into biocrude and then refining it into biodiesel, according to a report on ABC.
The production method could use a variety of waste from wood chips to wheat straw.
"The plant would process something like 100 tonnes a day of dry material, which is somewhere between five and 10 truckloads," he told ABC.
"Farmers and foresters would bring their waste material in and the plant would process the material into biocrude liquid, which would be stored in a tank until the tanker came up from the refinery to collect it.
"It would be refined into biodiesel and returned back to the users in the bush and indeed in the city."
He said that the production of biodiesel from waste could se Australia become a bet exporter of fuel.
