New Wind Farm for Fowler
US - A new wind farm is to be built in Fowler Indiana - a joint venture between Indianapolis Power and Light Company and enXco.The 102 MW Hoosier Wind Park in Fowler will provide electricity for IPL customers in central Indiana, with 21 turbines providing enough energy to power 24,000 homes.
IPL says the new farm will reduce its emissions by 230,000 tonnes.
"We are delighted to move forward with this project, which represents an important renewable energy source for IPL and an important economic development project for Indiana," IPL President and Chief Executive Officer Ann Murtlow told the Journal and Courier.
"Our customers are increasingly interested in green energy options, and wind is a renewable power source that we can effectively harvest in our great state."
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission has already granted approval of the company's power purchase arrangement. Under the 20-year agreement approved Oct. 1, IPL will purchase the power from enXco, the Journal and Courier says.
Work is expected to start in December, and operations are expected to begin in 2009.
This is the third wind farm to go in Benton County.
