Print This Page Anxiety as a Result of Biomass Plant
AUSTRALIA - The Western Australian Agriculture Department has been asked for help by the farmers of Manjimup to prepare a detailed study of the impacts that a proposed biomass plant has on food production.Babcock and Brown wants to build a wood-fired power station just outside of Manjimup.
Ann Lyster from WA's largest apple producer says farmers near the proposed plant are concerned smoke and pollution will affect their produce.
"I think it's really quite important because not only do the shire council need to know, but the wider community needs to actually understand the benefits that having agriculture in their area brings to the wider community," she said.
