Farmers to Finance Modern Pig Farm
SELAYANG - According to The Star, the proposed RM100mil hi-tech pig farm in Selangor will be financed by the farmers themselves rather than by the state government.State executive councillor Datuk Hassan Mohamed Ali clarified yesterday that the state government was merely facilitating the implementation of the pig farm project.
Hassan said although the issue had been blown out of proportion by those with their own political interests, the state government was satisfied that the proposed project at Ladang Tumbuk in the Kuala Langat district was in the best interests of Selangor people.
“The project is being implemented to centralise all the farms in Selangor and put an end to the pollution caused by pig farming activity.
Considering the plight of the Muslims, Hassan said, the implementation of the project on the 136.4ha land was the best solution.
The state government was told the farm was sophisticated and produced zero waste.
“We were told that even the pig waste would be turned into biogas and, therefore, nothing will be released out,” he said.
On the claim by former Barisan Nasional government led Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo that his government had not approved the proposed pig farm project, Hassan said it was untrue.
He said the project was approved in January this year and the Pakatan Rakyat Government was just implementing the project after considering various options.
