Pilot Processing Refinery Anticipated Within a Year
NEW ZEALAND - According to Radio New Zealand, a test processing refinery is expected to operate withing a year's time. The company - Pure Power Technology - launching the pilot plans to produce ethanol from a kind of willow.It has been working with the Taupo Development Company, running growing trials of salex or cane willow, as a feed stock for ethanol production and other high-value products.
The scientist leading the biofuel project, Dr Jim Watson, says that change of ownership has provided investment backing which will allow the company to speed up its plans for a processing plant.
Dr Watson says the availability of biomass will determine where the pilot plant is located and, although they are looking offshore, at this stage New Zealand is the front runner.
He says the company is now looking for landowners to grow the cane willow it's propagating in nurseries in the Taupo and Whangarei areas.
