China Warns Grains Exporters Of Licence Termination

BEIJING - According to Bernama, China is the world's largest grain consumer and also a net exporter of rice, wheat and corn.

China has warned mainland exporters that shipments of wheat, corn, rice and their flour to Hong Kong must not be diverted to other markets or their licences will be terminated.

The Commerce Ministry said contracts must be signed with registered Hong Kong importers.

Global grain prices are soaring due to lower output and rising demand.

"The department issuing the permits for exports shall strictly follow the state's order on the grains and milled products quota. They are only for Hong Kong and cannot be transferred to other places," the ministry said in a notice.
