PM to Consider Wind Power Development Plan
This project can be based in the southern province of Ninh Thuan or any appropriate location. The Ministry of Planning and Investment has asked for the government’s guidance in the use of the Danish government’s official development aid (ODA) for the wind power project.
Le Tuan Phong, vice chief of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Energy Department, said that foreign and local investors are promoting investment in wind power projects ranging from 6 MW to 150 MW in capacity.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam has huge potential for developing this source of clean power because 8.6 percent of the country’s area has high wind speed, especially in Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Lam Dong, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang provinces.
Compared to other sources of power like thermo or hydro power, wind power is friendly to the environment and doesn’t require large areas of land. Moreover, Vietnam has over 3000km of coast, which is very favorable for developing this power.
