Biomass Plant for Salem
The two companies are trying to obtain matching grants to make the project a reality, according to a report on WJBD Radio.
The report says the project will take 60 of the 138 acres set aside for a proposed ethanol plant on the South Hoots Chapel Road behind the vacant Quebecor building.
"The biomass energy plant actually uses agricultural waste or woodchips that would normally be refuse and turns it into electrical power" Midwest president Chris Daniels told WJBD.
"The concept is to put a 60 megawatt plant there and sell the electricity directly to the grid."
The Biomass plant could generate enough electricity to power a city the size of Salem.
Mr Daniels added that the biomass plant did not mean an end to the plans for of an ethanol plant in the future.
