FINLAND - Tarja Cronberg, the Finnish labour minister, said she was in favour of turning the Stora Enso pulp mill in Kemijärvi into a biofuel refinery and factory. The employees of the mill had suggested that the mill could be used to make pulp, biodiesel and ethanol at the same time.
"Producing renewable energy must be a top goal in the future. The facility cannot continue to function in its current form," the minister said in Kemijärvi.
She added Kemijärvi needed innovations lest jobs disappear in the space of a few years.
Stora Enso announced in October it would close the Kemijärvi pulp mill.
