Tanzania Looking into Ethanol Technology
TANZANIA - Brazilian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Appio Claudia Acquarone wants to bring to Tanzania the technology of producing ethanol from sugarcanes, reports AllAfrica.The Brazilian ambassador told journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday that Tanzania has all the potentials of adopting the ethanol technology, noting that he will be very happy to succeed in bringing the technology to Tanzania.
According to him, 45 percent of all vehicles in Brazil use the bio-fuel extracted through ethanol technology.
"If I succeed in transferring the technology into the country I think I could go back home comfortably" said the Brazilian ambassador into the country.
The ambassador said that the Tanzania government interest on the transfer of the ethanol technology started t be shown during president Mkapa rule.
Brazil is the world's second largest producer of ethanol and the world's largest exporter, and it is considered to have the world's first sustainable biofuels economy and the biofuel industry leader.
Together, Brazil the United States lead the industrial world in global ethanol production, accounting together for 70% of the world's production and nearly 90 per cent of ethanol used for fuel.
He explained that the ethanol is made out of sugar cane in Brazil at present where 7000 liters hectares, produced in other countries are 3000 ha only.
The sugar cane yearly production of 300 million tons forty eight percent goes to sugar while fifty two percent for fuel.
The Ambassador said that the ethanol production areas are situated at 2500 kilometers of the Amazon region and if the ethanol production triples it would only require six million hectares in the same area.
However he said that the ethanol has nothing to do with world food crisis and instead the technology has allowed them to produce more food In Brazil.
