RISI to Publish Study Detailing the Impact of Biomass Projects
BOSTON - RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry, today announced that in August they will publish a new multi-client study entitled "The Emerging Biomass Industry: Impact on Woodfiber Markets."This new
study will forecast how new and existing biomass projects will affect the
supply, demand and prices for wood fiber from all sectors of the forest
products industry. The study will provide a review of current and future uses
of woodfiber for energy generation and liquid biofuel production, and an
outlook on how exchange rates and oil prices will potentially impact demand
for energy from wood fiber. In addition the study will provide a forecast of
demand for wood pellets and biomass chips from Europe and Japan, and compare
the competitiveness of wood fiber against alternative feed stocks such as
agriculture residues and new energy crops.
Rocky Goodnow, study co-author and Senior Timber Economist with RISI,
commented, "As everyone in the forest products industry has seen, interest in
and demand for information on new and existing biomass projects is at an all
time high. This study will provide many of the answers that industry
executives are looking for." He continued, "We will be publishing the first
edition of the study this coming July, and will then follow that up with
annual forecasts beginning in 2009."
The 2008 report has been co-authored by Goodnow, Robert Flynn, RISI's
Director of International Timber and Paul Jannke, RISI's Senior Vice
President of Wood & Timber Information -- who combined have over 40 years of
experience forecasting the North American and International wood products and
timber markets.
