Smoke-free Biogas the Latest Rage
INDIA - According to P.S. Raju, who is promoting biogas plants for cooking, it is possible to save abating fossil fuels and cook absolutely smoke-free with biogas.According to The Hindu, the biogas plant needs no firewood, but only five kg of kitchen waste daily. Furthermore, it will produce organic manure for sustainable agriculture, Mr. Raju says.
Calling biogas a good alternative energy, he says: “We will also supply oil cakes or starch material of one kg a day to give 1 cubic meter of gas. This is equal to 0.43 kg of gas, which is sufficient to cook for four or five persons.”
According to D. Selvi, Project Director of Renewable Energy Agency of Pondicherry, the product should be tested and proved.
“We have asked him to apply for the laboratory test and to submit a detailed project report. This will be sent to the Ministry,” she says.
